Graphics and typography for print and digital use.
As a graphic designer for the Daily Trojan, I designed a variety of graphics for both print and online use, ranging from type backgrounds, infographics, blog headers, to images. The goal of each piece was to tell a specific story through the colors, shapes, and overall composition.
As a designer on staff for the Daily Trojan, I focused on graphic design, layout design, and visual storytelling
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.
The most challenging part of designing each piece was working within unique dimensions and requirements. Depending on space and location in the paper, every piece required a different style depending on the constrictions of that day's layout. Sometimes certain spreads were in greyscale while others were in color.
Based on these limitations, and the theme of the design and text, I was able to experiment with a variety of deigns and layouts, allowing me to explore storytelling through design. Typically, I was given text to accompany my pieces. I would take key words or themes from the corresponding text in order to inspire the visual story of each piece.
